608: Reading the Fine Print: Understanding Academic Freedom

5:15 PM–6:30 PM Saturday, Jan 5, 2019 (US - Central)

Hyatt Regency - Columbus KL

Session Information

Description: Most members of the MLA work without a technical or practical understanding of what academic freedom is. We labor under a belief that we are protected by a legal and professional right that makes it possible for us to fully engage in the classroom and in public forums. But clearly this is not always true, and in our current political and institutional climate it seems pressing and timely to outline and then analyze the reach and limitations of academic freedom.
